Aerospace Engineering is the primary field of engineering concerned with the development of aircraft as well as spacecraft. It has two major and overlapping branches:
1. Aeronautical engineering
2. Astronautical engineering
Avionics engineering is similar, but it deals with the electronics branch of aerospace engineering. Aeronautical engineering was the original term for the field. As flight technology advanced to include vehicles operating in outer space, the broader term "Aerospace Engineering" has come into use. Aerospace engineering, particularly, the astronautical engineering branch, is often commonly referred to as "Rocket Science".
Aeronautical engineering: Aeronautics deals with aircraft that operate within the Earth’s atmosphere.
Aerospace engineering: Astronautics deals with spacecraft that operate outside the Earth's atmosphere in the space in form of rockets, satellites, etc. Aerospace Engineering deals with the design, construction, and study of the science behind the forces and physical properties of aircraft, rockets, flying craft, and spacecraft. The field also covers their aerodynamic characteristics and behaviours, airfoil, control surfaces, lift, drag, and other properties that are related to spacecraft.
